Peter Moraldo is an Austrian filmmaker, photographer, visual designer, and musician based in Vienna and Graz. His work combines visual storytelling, artistic expression, and creative communication across film, photography, design, and music.

His passion for the arts began at an early age through music. He received his first formal musical education at the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory in Graz, studying classical guitar, complemented by private piano lessons. Over the years, he expanded his musical practice through vocal training and flamenco guitar, developing a strong interest in classical singing, chanson, canzone, and contemporary songwriting. Alongside his work as a solo artist, he performs with the band Mediterraniu, a project inspired by the rich musical traditions of the Mediterranean region.

During his school years, Peter developed a fascination for cinema and visual storytelling. Largely self-taught in the early stages, he began experimenting with filmmaking and photography, eventually deciding to pursue a professional artistic career.

After gaining practical experience through various creative projects in Austria and Germany, he enrolled in Performing and Audiovisual Arts at the Université de Lorraine in 2014. His first experience as an actor in the short film Délectation (2016) inspired him to direct his own projects and further explore the language of cinema.

In 2018, his short film 80 m² was presented at the Short Film Corner of the Festival de Cannes, marking an important milestone in his artistic development. During this period, he also spent a year at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo as an exchange student, specializing in Multimedia Arts and expanding his interdisciplinary approach to visual creation.

Peter later completed his Master’s degree in Film Aesthetics at the Université Toulouse – Jean Jaurès in 2019. His academic work focused on cinema, visual culture, and film theory, complementing his practical experience as a filmmaker and visual artist. Following his return to Austria, he continued his education at Die Graphische in Vienna, further developing his skills in photography, graphic design, and visual communication.

His films explore themes of identity, memory, belonging, and human relationships. His recent short films, Marino (2021) and Bighellone (2024), have been screened at national and international festivals, with Bighellone receiving the Public Choice Award at the Austrian Film Festival. His latest short film, Nikolo, continues his exploration of personal and social narratives and is currently beginning its international festival journey.

Alongside his artistic practice, Peter has built extensive experience in communication and content creation. He worked as Communication Manager at the Institut français d’Autriche, where he was responsible for visual and digital communication projects, and currently creates photography and video content for the Austrian Ministry of European and International Affairs.

Beyond filmmaking, Peter works as a photographer and visual designer for cultural institutions, businesses, artists, and public organizations. His projects range from documentary and street photography to portraiture, event coverage, branding, editorial design, and visual communication campaigns. His multidisciplinary background allows him to combine artistic sensitivity with strategic communication, creating authentic and engaging visual experiences.

Today, Peter continues to develop projects that connect film, photography, design, and music, working across both independent artistic productions and commissioned collaborations.
